Bringing the Highlands to Docklands: Invergordon Bar to Open Soon

A slice of the UK is arriving in Docklands with the launch of a new neighbourhood pub set to bring some much-needed community spirit to the waterfront.

A Family Dream Years in the Making

Local couple Erin and Dean are putting the final touches on their labour of love, the Invergordon Bar, aiming to open in time for the Firelight Festival.

For Dean, the pub is more than just a business; it’s the realisation of a dream rooted in childhood memories. “My grandparents retired from Belfast to a little town in the Scottish Highlands called Invergordon, and a short time after that, my parents, my brother and I moved up there,” Dean told Docklands News. “A lot of our time as a family was spent going from pub to pub to pub. [Starting a pub has] been in the back of my mind for most of my life, and we just decided that now is the right time to do it.”

A True Local for Docklands

After settling in Docklands, the pair quickly realised something was missing from the area. It became clear to them that what Docklands really needed was a proper neighbourhood pub. Somewhere that felt like “home.”

The Invergordon Bar is set to be more than just another watering hole. Erin and Dean are creating a welcoming hub for locals and expats alike, particularly those from Scotland, Ireland and England. “There’s something really special about helping people feel like they’ve found their local.” Dean said.

Classic Pints and Community Vibes

Behind the bar, expect familiar favourites like Tennent’s, Belhaven Scottish Ale, Kilkenny, Guinness, Magners cider, and even their own Invergordon Lager. There’ll also be a strong line-up of Scotch whiskies to round things out. Invergordon recommends a number of nearby restaurants for a feed, including Renzo’s Bar and Cargo Restaurant, and welcomes you bringing food in to enjoy with a pint.

The idea has already gained traction with the community. Their $100 membership program, which includes 20 per cent off drinks, has almost sold out, with sign-ups coming from as far away as Tasmania and New South Wales.

But for Erin and Dean, it’s about more than food and drink. “We want to build a community of people. Especially for young people coming on working visas, we want to help point them in the right direction and give them some guidance.”

Rooted in Culture, Focused on Community

The couple have also joined the Scottish Business Association and is supporting a local Highland dancer with fundraising efforts, strengthening their ties with Melbourne’s Scottish community.

With tartan signage now installed and the finishing touches underway, Dean says he’s looking forward to that first day. “I’m most excited about just opening the doors and welcoming people in.”

Part of a Bigger Docklands Revival

The Invergordon Bar is joining a broader revitalisation of Docklands’ hospitality scene, which includes big-name projects like Moon Dog’s upcoming 1,500-capacity brewpub near Marvel Stadium.

As Docklands shifts from a corporate centre to a thriving residential and entertainment precinct, community-minded venues like the Invergordon Bar are helping redefine the area as a place to live, connect, and belong.
